Styled text is really a set of different Unicode characters. Screen readers often spell it out letter by letter or skip it, and search can't match it. Style a few words for emphasis, not whole posts.

The feed preview appears here once you add text. Styling survives in the preview exactly as it will in a real post.

How bold text on LinkedIn actually works

LinkedIn posts have no rich text. No bold button, no italics, nothing.

What looks like bold text is a different set of characters entirely: Unicode's mathematical alphabets, where 𝗕 is a separate character from B. Because the styling lives in the characters themselves, it survives copy and paste anywhere plain text goes: posts, comments, your headline, other platforms.

That is all this tool does. It swaps your letters for their styled equivalents, in your browser, and you copy the result.

The catch: styled text has real costs

Styled characters are not letters to software that reads text. Before styling a whole post, know what you trade away:

  • Screen readers often spell styled words letter by letter, or skip them entirely. A fully styled post can be unreadable to a blind reader.
  • Search cannot match styled words. Text styled this way is invisible to LinkedIn search and to the people searching it.
  • Character counts grow, because most styled letters count as two characters against the 3,000 limit.
  • Older devices sometimes show boxes instead of glyphs.

How to use the formatter

  1. Paste or write your text in the box.
  2. Select the words you want to style. With nothing selected, the style applies to everything.
  3. Click a style. Clicking another style restyles the same selection; Clear returns it to plain text.
  4. Check the feed preview underneath, then copy and paste into LinkedIn.

Use it like a highlighter, not a font

Bold works on LinkedIn the way it works in any document: it directs the eye. A bolded key line in a plain post stands out. A fully bolded post is just a louder wall of text, and it carries every accessibility cost at full size.

Style the two or three words that carry the point. Leave the rest alone.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make text bold on LinkedIn?
LinkedIn has no bold button, so you paste in pre-styled Unicode characters instead. Type your text here, select the words, click Bold, and copy the result into your post. The styling is carried by the characters themselves, so it survives the paste.
Will styled text hurt my post's reach?
There is no public evidence that LinkedIn penalises styled characters. The measurable costs are different ones: screen readers struggle with it, and LinkedIn search cannot match styled words. Styling a few words costs you little. Styling whole posts costs you readers.
Do bold letters count as more characters?
Usually yes. Most styled letters are encoded as two characters, so a fully styled post consumes the 3,000-character limit roughly twice as fast. The counter under the box shows the count the way platforms measure it.
Why does styled text show as squares on some devices?
The styled characters come from Unicode blocks that some older systems never got fonts for. Modern phones and browsers show them fine. There is no fix from the sender's side, which is one more reason to style sparingly.
Does this work outside LinkedIn?
Yes. The characters are plain Unicode, so they paste into X, Instagram bios, WhatsApp, email subject lines, anywhere text goes. The same accessibility caveats follow them everywhere too.
Is this text formatter free?
Yes, with no signup and no card. It runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded anywhere.
